While your conscience wants you to pick the best diamond for your budget, your betrothed expects a ring to gaze at for a lifetime, so it’s worth spending time thinking about the right setting.
Start with the anatomy of a ring—so you understand the lingo—then consider the style.
Engagement Rings
Summary
The key parts of an engagement ring’s anatomy are the head, the shank, accent diamonds, shoulder and depending on the ring, cathedral setting.
Ring styles include solitaire, side stone, gemstone, vintage, three-stone, and halo. Of the six, only the solitaire features one main diamond. The other styles have more than one stone, including those along the shank.
We also carry rings designed exclusively for us by trend setting designers Zac Posen, Monique Lhuillier, and Colin Cowie.
Fine jewelry, including engagement rings are only set in platinum or gold. Gold can be yellow, white or rose, depending on which metal alloy it has been mixed with.
Most engagement rings have one of five prong types: four prong, six prong, east/west prong, double prong, bezel, and semi-bezel
.A shank can be smooth, or be set with smaller diamonds in a variety of setting styles including channel, shared prong, bar, and pavé.
Main Prong Types
One stunning center diamond—no more, no less. The options with this setting type include prong style and type of metal.
Solitaire

Vintage
Pre-set gemstones, usually sapphires, that flank the main, center diamond.
Gemstone
Any ring with smaller pre-set side diamonds. All you have to do is pick the large, center stone.
Side Stone
Tiny diamonds called pavé encircle the center diamond, creating a halo around the center stone.
Halo

Platinum
The name of this highly prized and strong element comes from the Spanish word patina, which means little silver, a reference to its lustrous grayish-white color.
Gold

Rings with stones along the shank come in a variety of styles. The main differences between them lies in how the smaller stones are mounted.
The four prongs set in a north, south, east, west orientation.
Two, rather than one, prong per set.
Prongs hold the stones in place and can be pointed, round, flat
or shaped like a V.
